RArtOTU. (I'ram Our Own Correspondent). Wednesday, thei 28th, was a lovely day, when a garden party wa3 held at Mr. Torn Fleming's grounds In aid of his nelce (Miss M. Fleming), who is the Rahotu and Oaonul candidate for the Opunake Queen Carnival. Afternoon tea was laid on tables under the trees, and there was a stall for the sale of produeu fruit and sweets, etc. Games were also Indulged in. The Ivlna road ladles ran the afternoon tea on sale day in the hall, and a social and dance took place the same evening to further tlie votes of the same young lady. A meeting was held at the hotel by the Queen's Committee last night to arrange what next to do. It Is reported that Mrs. Morrow, senr,, has sold her beach property to Messrs. F. Rothery and J, Barrat, who take possession In June. Mr. James has sold his Eahui road farm to Messrs Morgan. Mr. James does not intend to leave us, out is to build upon his Ngarikl property. Mrs. Harrison has returned, and Is looking very well after her long change. At the Harvest Thanksgiving Sunday service. Rev. Addenbrooke preached to a good congregation. Owing to the very wet evening before, very little decorating could be done, but a large cross of beautiful flowers, consisting of scarlet coral, lilie3 and ,noses was made by Mrs. Penwarden and hung over the altar. Miss Alice Hopkins presided at. the organ. The Harvest Thanksgiving evening was a success financially. Songs were sung by Mrs Wright and Rev. Addenbrooke, both being in good form. Rocitatlon3 were contributed by Misses Looney and Dawson and Mr. Woods related a few stories. Messrs. Walls and Gibson disposed of the gifts, Mr. Williamson acting as clerk, and Mrs. Cameron made the buttonholes. Supper, including hop beer, was served at a stall. Mrs. Gerald Dawson kindly acted as accompanist, and Mrs. Wright, Miss Chapman and Mr. Parker provided the music for the dance. Rev. Addenbrooke thanked all for their help. About £2O was realised.
