AUSTRALIA LOSING TRADE. THROUGH LABOR UNREST. Sydney, Feb. (i. Burns, Philp and Co. announce that, as the result of the Labor unrest here, the company has decided to build no further steamers at present, but ir,stead to endeavor to send Island produce direct to America and Europe by chartered vessels and to reduce their present Island fleet. The attempt to .create a transhipment depot in Australia under the existing conditions is almost impossible. There was also a danger in the substitution of foreign tonnage for the Eastern trade, as the Malay States urgently needed frozen meat, and the loss of this trade might be permanent. There are now 15,000 unemployed in Sydney and 180,496 tons of shipping idle at Sydney and Newcastle.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
