Coming after a good supply of rain, tlie present seasonable weather is gladdening tlie hearts of farmers, and enabling them to- finish their harvesting operations, while the growth of winter feed is making good headway. The fine weather is also favorable to roading operations, and great activity is noticeable on all sides.
Stratford's urgent needs are gradually being supplied. With a prospect of a new post adequate to the requirements of the town for the next decade, a new and commodious railway station and yards, new school buildings, with the probability of an agricultural college in the not distant futuje, this flourishing centre bids fair to come into its own.
Some kind of a freak vegetable is continualK - its_ appearance." Stratford's latest is an extraordinary onion, grown from seed by Mr. E. J. Foster, who is exhibiting the product in his shop window. The remarkable feature about this onion is that instead of seeding in the ordinary way it produced a bunch of small onions at the top of the stem, and then started to send out a further shoot, which also grew onionlets. Possibly if onions of this kind could be taught'their business thoroughly a good crop of pickings might be obtained. Mr. Robert Masters. A dance, in aid of the Midhirst Hall funds, is to be held in the Midhirst Hall on Wednesday evening. The Kali Board is sparine; no pains to make the function •>. very enjoyable one, and as tlie proceeds are to be devoted to a deserving cause, there should be a large attendance.
