T.J.C. AUTUMN MEETING. A SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION. SECOND DAY'S RESULTS. The Taranaki Jockey Club's autumn meeting was brought to a successful conclusion yesterday. Splendid weather conditions prevailed, and. the attendance was very large, being an increase on the firat day. The racing was again very interesting, the fields being dispatched well, and tho -finishes close and exciting. In the opening race a regrettable incident occurred to mar the day's pleasure, Munster .coin'jng down at the last jump while contesting the Hurdle Eaee. The horse rolled on his rider, E. Conway, who received, serious injuries, necessitating his removal to the hospital. Last night he regained consciousness, and, as far as can be ascertained, is suffering from injuries to his shoulder and his back. ; .The Sixth Taranaki Stakes were annexed by Mr. A. Alexander's mare Silver Link.' It was a very popular win, and the wiiiner received an ovation. The public was in good speculative form, no fewer than seven favorites being the first -to catch the judge's eye. The totalisator staff again had a busy I time, the sum of £31,785 being passed through the machine. This shows a decrease of £1144 compared with the same day last year, when £32,929 was put through the machine. But it must be remembered that last year the DesertGold - Gloaming race proved a great attraction. The total for the meeting was £64,128, as compared with £59,471 10s last year, an increase of £4656 10s. This must be regarded as satisfactory, especially in view of the deletion of the 10s totalisator, which prevented numerous small investors (from speculating. >As on the first day, all details had been attended to by Mr. Webster and his courteous staff, whilst the various officials all knew their duties and carried them out efficiently.
The Citizens' Band, under Mr. F. W. G. McLeod, again rendered a programme of enjoyable music, which was much appreciated. The location of the Band on this occasion was on the lawn in front of the tea kiosk. The kiosk did good business, as also did the refreshment booth and the catering department. Mr. McMahon, Chief Stipendiary Steward, was present, but there were only one or two minor inquiries. The pay-out on the last race was delayed while the stewards enquired into the alleged interference with Ermine at the back of the course, but after hearing evidence no action was taken. Mr. Kelleher was the Government official at the totalisator, and there was no delay in this department, the result being that the races were got off well up to time.
