Sydney, Fob. 4. The municipal elections under the new Local Government Act, instead of.' as anticipated in some quarters, showing a revolutionary trend, resulted, if anything, in a contrary result. Labor did not Rain ground as anticipated, and in such strongholds as Broken Hill. Lithgow, Marricfcville, and Newtown, it rereived a decided set-back. At, Broken Mill, where the council was formerly wholly Lu'hor, (here was not a single endorsed Labor candidate returned Aus.-N.Z. Cahle Assn.
THE OBSERVANCE OF SUNDAY. Sydney. Feb. 4. A resolution was adopted by theGoulhurn Anglican Synod deplorin? the growing tendency to secularise Sunday, but at the same time reminding churcii people that there was nothing inconsistent with Christian principles in physical and ■social recreation on the Lord's' Day, provided that, such recreation is subordinated to the primary claims of divine worship.
