TO RACES BY AEROPLANE.
A JOCKEY'S NOVEL RIDE. $ W. BUsh, a well-known jockey, has the distinction of being the first man in the Dominion to arrive at a racecourse by aeroplane. Thi record was established early last Saturday afternoon when Bush alighted from an Avro airplane just outside the trees skirting the Riccarton racecourse, Christchurch. There was i a good deal of disappointment that the Jockey Club had not permitted a landing on or inside the course, but the machine came down on the actual racecourse reserveCaptain Euan Dickson, in the Canterbury Aviation Company's new Avro, who had had a busy morning with passenger flights, picked up his passenger at the aerodrome and, after circling around for a, little while, flew over the course and was in the air while the first race was run. After one or two turns a landing was made very neatly, and as r.oon as the passenger alighted Captain Dickson flew straight back to the aerodrome.
