TARANAKI CUP MEETING. SPLENDID RACING PROMISED,, ' The two days' autumn meeting underf the auspices of the Taranaki Jockey Club opens to-day, at the New Plymouth race* course. The weather indications weva bright last night, and good fields, enn bracing some of the leading of the Dominion, should provide interest* ing racing. New Plymouth is crowded with visitors for the meeting, and when} special trains arrive to-day with sports, men from all parts of Taranaki, a record crowd should be provided. The course and the appointments artf in perfect order. Mr. O'Connor will act a* starter, and Mr. J. R. L. Stanford will officiate as judge. The general arrange* ments for the meeting have all been at* tended to, and the gathering should provq to be the most successful ever held bv the club. Ji Owing to the postponement of tlii Takapuna meeting, Mr. E. Alison's team —Taiamai, Lord Kenilworth, and Land* slide—has not come down, but Muaattr Stork, and Madam Ristori .arrived from Auckland yesterday. The principal even# to-day will be the Taranaki Cup, fon which there is a field of seven, including Karo and Surveyor. The Plying cap should be another great race, SmmoC being the top weight of a field of uvaL Visitors are reminded that the te3 shilling totalisator will not be open.
