(From Our Own Correspondent.) Jan. 31. At the conclusion of the match on Thursday, the newly-formei'. Cricket Club held a meeting, and elected officers for the balance of the season as follows:—Captain, Mr. A. A. Stewart; vicecaptain, Mr. K. Bain; secretary and treasixrer, Mr. O. E. Hemmingway. The subscription was fixed at 10s, and 5s for members under 18 years. Mr. C. Allen, who was so badly injured at the Dardanelles, and who left Eltham some months ago to take up an important position in Melbourne, was in town on Thursday. He is looking well, but is still lame. Thursday was an ideal holiday, and cricket, tennis, bowling, and croquet were all well patronised. In spite of high prices, buildings are being erected. [ News has been received that Private H. J. Andrews will return by the Athenic, arriving in New Zealand about March Ist, At the Pipe Band meeting on Friday evening it was decided to re visit Hawera on Saturday, February 6th. The Hawera folk treated the Band well on their last visit. The question of giving a performance in aid of the Band funds Will be discussed. We are only half through the summer, and many ladies are requiring new hats to finish out the season. Just call at Shipton's and see what they have to offer you in up-to-date millinery, moderately priced. Shipton'B Corner, Eltham.
