THE DOMINION COUNCIL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Christchurch, Lost Night. At a meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council it was decided to advise the Otago Association to get Into touch with the Officer Commanding the district to see If military parades could not be arranged so as to allow young playera to take part In matches on Saturday. It was agreed that Manawatu should enter Into negotiations with Poverty Bay to arrange a date for the match for the Hawke Cup and to advise It that it had the right to Inscribe its name on the Heathcote-Willlams' Shield.

The chairman (Mr. F. C. Baphael) referred to the deep sense of loss felt by cricketers at the death of Lord'Plunket, and he' moved that a letter be forwarded to Lady Plunket, expressing the Council's heartfelt and sincere sympathy with her and the members of her family in their irreparable loss. The njotlon was carried. At the meeting of delegates to the Council, it was decided not to play the JJorth y. South Island match this year. TO-DAY'S FIXTURES. Following are. the fixtures for .o-day's cricket matches:— SENIOR COMPETITION. Npw Plymouth A v. New Plymouth B, at Pukekura Park; Freezing Works t. • Tifcorangi, at Show grounds . As the High School Tacatlon is not yet over the matches in which their teams are drawn are not being played this round, consequently Old Boys will have a bye to-day. JUNIOR COMPETITION. It is doubtful if there wil'. be any junior matches to-day. Two of the tentms being school elevens their matches are not being played this round, and Whlteley is unlikely tQ be able to put an eleven in tha field to-day. The following will represent Walreka juniors against High School "A" at the Tukapa Reserve to-day at 2 pjin.:—Morrison, Yates, Brofcensbire, Tyrell, Carter, Handley, Parker, H. Sole, H. Hoffmann, Wyley, Gardner; emergencies : Dutton, Yardley. Players are ie~ quested to be on the ground at 1.30 p.m. sharp. NOTES. Fixtures In connection with both the Saturday and Thursday competitions are moving along slowly, holidays and wet weather prolonging matters somewhat. It 13 rumored that a match is being arranged between New Plymouth golfers and a team picked from the local cricket clubs, Urenul have succeeded In winning both their games against Albion and Wairekit. In the latter fixture they were outed for small figures —2O in their first strike, (rt the second venture they improve®" considerably, C. Wilson knocking up 51 runs in fine style, picking the loose ball 3 with discretion, and, considering the state of the wicket, his display must be classed as first-class. Mabin is a sticker. He bats with one hand, and although ho will never score many runs he has a good defence. The Puller brothers failc'J to get going, but their stay at the wlckots was lonp enough to indicnte that they possess plenty of strokes. In O'Neill and Bertrawl the club possess two reliable bowlers, and they made the Waireka innings a procession, O'Neill, in one maiden over, securing four tickets. He is a left-handeT, and to this class of bowling Walreka are all at sea. Eight wickets for runs is a splendid average, and O'NeiJPs success should encourage the club in their next venture when they meet a stronger batting combination—New Plymouth.

This gams should take place next Thursday, but owing to other attractions probably all cricket will be off.

Waireka quite failed to realise expectations In their game against TTrenui. A scoro of 30 should not have been beyond them, but, itistead of accomplishing thl3, the display b}' the whole eleven was lamentable, excepting Bui cher, who made 11 and then threw his wicket away in slogjing on a forlorn hope. Seven wickets fell during hla stay at the battlhs crease. By the way. Butcher is an admirable field equal to the best In the competition. Huffhes ni "off" In Ills batting, usually a steady bat. "Dan" could not restrain his desire to have a "go" and paid the usual penalty. After play inn for an hour against the same bowling (Crenul) Bern was the centre of Walreka'a hopes, but a fine length ball from Bertrand ran up the shoulder ot Berg's bat and he was out to a neat catch behind the wtctotp. Albion sustained 1 another defeat, this time against New Plymouth. The latter are a good all-round eleven, and what Heskett and Nicoll accomplished In the first Innings Shepherd and Stalnton did also in Albion's second strike, thus scoring a. three-point win. N»W Plymouth have a. mortgage on the Thursday competition, but it Is generally recognised that Waireka and Albion are improving every game. On Thursday Alblou had four good wickets down for a few runa and caused New Plymouth a few* pilous momenta. The Appear&nc6 of the champion, Heskef.fc, Quickly settled Albion's etaanew, as hie .fflode the Albion score off his 'own but, ana then, , to further demonstrate Ma form, lie went through the Albion ton In apj*#v»i ta»h-
