Petherick against conviction in the case brought by the Arcadia Picture Theatre Company at Dannevirlce was allowed by the Judge sitting,at Palmerston North. BREACHES OF GAMING ACT. Leslie Robert Jones, organiser and secretary of the Lyall Bay Carnival held last month, was charged before Mr.' Page, S.M., to-day with (1) having advertised the intention to dispose of watches, costumes, furniture, etc., amongst divers persons by means of a device whereby such property was to be divided or allocated by chance; (2) with having established a scheme by which prizes of moneys and goods were to be gained by a mode of chance. Defendant's counsel admitted a technical breach, and a line of £1 and costs was imposed on each charge. It was stat- | ed in court that the Carnival was a financial failure.
