Dr. Margaret Harper intends to leave .Sydney for New Zealand at the end of this month to study the welfare system for mothers and brbies adopted in the Dominion. The investigations are to be carried out in the interests of the Royal Welfare Society of Australia. Dr. Harper is a daughter of Professor Harper, of St. Andrew's College, and a graduate of Sydney School of Medicine. She was the first woman appointed as medical superintendent at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children. # * » *

Miss Louise Mack hai=. been entertained during the week by Archdeacon aud Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Cliolemley, Mr. and Mrs. Phillpots, Mr. S- Percy Smith and others. WEDDINGS. MARRIAGE AT WELLINGTON. A marriage of interest in New Plymouth took place this week at Wellington, when Miss Joan Angela C. Kendall, elder daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Martindale Kendall, was married to Dr. Robert Campbell Begg, M.C. (late R.A.M.C.), of Wellington. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory brocaded crepe de chine over pale pink, made with a long panelled train, carried by two little pages. The veil, of Brussels net, beautifully embroidered, had been- lent for the occasion, and was arranged to form a cap, the long folds of net partly covering the train. A bouquet of pink carnations, roses, and maidenhair fern was carried. Miss Peggy Kendall attended her sister as bridesmaid. The best man was Dr. Hohnden, and the small pages were the bride's godson, Keitli Bethune, and Malcolm Holmes, nephew of the bridegroom. WEDDING AT OKATO. (From a Correspondent.) A quiet wedding took place at the residence of Messrs. Bates and ICimber, Kaihihi Road, Okato, on Thursday, January 22nd, the contracting parties being Miss Frances C. Packer, only daughter of Mrs. J. T. Green, Okato, and Mr. Joe Mangino, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Mangino, Naples, Italy. The bride, who was given away by Mr. Frank Bates, wore a dross of white voile. She was attended by Miss Woodward as bridesmaid, and Mr. Bert Smith acted as best man. The Rev. 'Father Soulas performed the ceramonv. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was partaken of, after which the happy couple left for New Plymouth, amidst showers of Tice and good wishes.
