FIRES.
OUTBREAKS IN AUROA DISTRICT. A FACTORY DESTROYED. On Wednesday night two outbreaks of fire occurred in the Auroa district —one at midnight and the other about two hours later. At the Tailcatu Road Factory the manager was awakaned by the glare, and, getting out, discovered the factory was afire. So great a hold had the flames that nothing could be done, and the factory was therefore completely destroyed. No damage was done to the manager's house and outbuildings, situated a short distance away.
About two hours later a settler going home late saw a blaze at Auroa, and found that a large stack of firewood stored some distance from the factory and store was on fire. He roused the factory hands, but there was no means of staying the conflagration, and the wood was all burnt.
At the height of the season such losses are serious. It ia probable a separating plant will be erected at Taikatu Road, and the creain carted to the main factory. Pending the erection thereof the railk will be taken in by the nearest factory. The origin of these fires is a mystery, as in both cases there was not the slightest indication of the danger of an outbreak on the previous cluv.—Star.
