AUCKLAND t. WELLINGTON. By Telegrapli.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Plunket Shield match, Wellington v. Auckland, was commenced in, good weather. Wellington hatted first on an essentially batsman's pitch. Brice, captain of the visitors, became ill during the morning, and could not bat. Wellington made 118 lor nine wickets (Dind 34, Burton not out 25). Smith took eight wickets for 65, Player one for 25. Auckland made 235 (Smith 86, Daere 31). Lambert took four wickets for 79, and Aldersley four for 47. SOUTH TARANAKI PLAY. Excelsiors were very decisively beaten by Midlands, putting up only C 7 to tlleir opponents' 227 for four wickets. Beechey played a fine forceful innings for 133 not out, though he was missed several times. Okaiawa and Manaia met at Okaiawa in perfect weather, and after a most interesting game Manaia won by nine wickets. Okaiawa scored 87 in the first innings (Marsh 31 not out, Fearon 16, Hughes 10), and 53 in the second venture (Penny 23, Pinfold 15). Manaia made 124 in the first innings (Gunn not out 65, Cosgrove 17), and secured the required 15 runs in the second innings for the loss of one wicket.
