SIR EDWARD CARSON.
MAY VISIT NEW ZEALAND. ; I Some time ago an invitation was sent to Sir Edward Carson, the well-known Ulster leader, to visit New Zealand. At the moment events in Ireland render such a step impossible, but it is probable, as announced yesterday, that Sir Edward and Lady Carson may at no distant date make a tour which will embrace both Australia and New Zealand. Writing recently in response to a communication from New Zealand sympathisers, Sir Edward said: "It is a great encouragement to me and to all the loyal community of Ireland to know that we have so many thousands of friends in New Zealand, which has shown itself to be one of th« most loyal portions of His Majesty's Pominions. The efforts that are , continuously mad*e to misrepresent the aims and objects of the loyal community of Ulster have, I am sure, no effect in New Zealand. They understand how determined we are to maintain our position invio* late in the United Kingdom and in the. Empire. In the constitution of the United Kingdom we hold no subordinate part, we have the same laws and the same privileges and are prepared to make the same sacrifices as the other units, and we firmly believe that the best interests of our country are promoted and sustained by closer union with our fellow I citizens in other parts of the United, Kingdom, and we have no sympathy with those who would attempt at the very heart of the Empire to create such a division as must be fraught with the weakening of the bonds that bind us together and with disaster to our own unit. To assist in maintaining this ideal, we appeal with confidence to all loyal men in New Zealand."
