Miss Gwendoline Leech, of Inglewood, has been successful in the Rudiment* Examination, of the Royal College of Music, London, gaining 80 marks out of a possible of 99. Mr. G. H. Hutton, manager of the.' Bank of New Zealand in Inglewood, left by the mail train oa Tuesday morning on a week's holiday. During Mr. Hutton's absence Mr. Carmine, accountant at the bank, will fill the position of acting-manager. Mr. M. N. Bums, who has been ap* pointed to the position of PWtnuwter, at Inglewood, ie expected to arrive" tomorrow. Mr. Burns is transferred! oa promotion from the Gisbome Poet Offite* where he has discharged the important duties of examiner for some time past. Mr. C. J. Writes a correspondent:—There is at present visiting New Plymouth a gentje« man from the United States, who form* one of three brothers who migrated from Aberdeenshire in tbeir youth. He is Mr, Alexander Henry, now in his 85th year. His brother, William, went to Australia* and is now over 90 years old. These two met recently after a separation of 70 years at the residence of the third brother, Mr. James Henry, of Matapu, South Taranaki, who is now 89 years old. Mr. Alexander Henry thinks this is a great country—a land flowing with' milk and honey, but he cannot under* stand why so progressive a country a» this has not adiopted prohibition long ago. Mr. J. Therkleson, who has been a resident of Tariki for very many yews, but has recently disposed of his business to two returned soldiers, and has removed to New Plymouth, was, on the eve of his departure, entertained by the settlers of the district to a largely attended social in the Tariki Hall.
