TARANAKI WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive of the Taranaki War Belief Association, was held at Stratford yesterday. Present: Messrs. W. P. Kirkwood (chairman), F. VV. Atkinson, F. Mills, W. E. Percival, E. H. Young, Stevenson and Tosland. The secretary (Mr. W. Power) reported that for the quarter ended December 31, 1919, the expenditure was as follows: Soldiers' and dependents' relief by association, £720 5s 4d; relief by local branches remitted in present account, £3,275 13s sd; grants to permanently disabled soldiers, £6,412 10s; total, £10,408. The receipts were: Subscriptions, £9B 7s 4d; deposit with. Hawera Borough Council, £3,000; interest, £525 15a 3d. The funds in hand on December 31 amounted to £34,300 14s, to which had to be added interest on war loan certificates amounting to £1,700. The maximum of £250 waa granted to a permanently disabled man at Rangiwhahia, and other grants were made to permanently disabled men as follows: Manaia case, 60 per cent, disability; Pihama case, 80 per cent, disability; Hawera cases, two 80 per cent., two 60 per cent., two 50 per cent., two 40 per cent., one 75 per cent., one 55 per cent., one 60 per cent, (less £55 13s 6d already granted), one 45 per cent., one 90 per cent., %ne 40 per cent., one 50 pet cent-, andi one 75 per cent. County of Egrnont League: One 80 per cent., one 70 per cent., one 90 per cent, (less £SO already granted), one 25 per cent., and one 30 per cent. Stratford cases: One 80 per cent., one 50 per cent. An application for an extension of time in which to pay balance of loan (£4O) was granted. The Wellington and South Canterbury Associations forwarded' draft of "'■ per- | manently disabled soldiers' schemes, and it was decided to Teply stating that this Association could not fall in with any outside proposals, but would be pleased to supply any information about their own scheme, which was now in practice. The following applications were granted: Two grants for clothing, £5 each; £6 for purchase of go-cart; £6 12s 6d financial expenses of child; refund to Wairarapa Committee of £3 granted for clothes; grants of £3O and £25, and a loan for furniture of £75. Further applications tinder a permanently disabled soldiers' scheme were granted as follows: New Plymouth: 1 case 100 per cent., two 80 per cent., and three 40 per cent. Stratford: One 40 per cent (possible increase later), one 50 per cent., one 70 per cent, (less £125 already paid), one 70 per cent., three 20 per cent., and one 25 per cent. North Taranaki: One i) 0 per cent, (further £IOO to be paid:), one 50 per cent, (money to be held by committee pending decision re the best means of spending the money), two 40 per cent., one 50 per cent,, one 25 per cent. The Advisory Board wrote asking if the Association had any remits which it desired to have considered at the conference of associations, at which the treatment of permanently disabled soldiers would be considered." It was urped that there should be some uniformity'in Hie methods adopted in dealing with these men.—Received. It was decided to write off £lO )0«. the balance of loan owing by a permanently disabled soldier. Inglewood applications for P.D.S granted were: two 50 per cent., one 7." per cent. ( £125 already granted.), ei.<rM 40 per cent. It was decided to extend the term of .* scholarship held by a bov for another year, subject to the last report from the headmaster being satisfactory. The amounts received from December 10 to January 21 totalled £570.
