ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

A SAD FATALITY. FARMER DROWNED IN THE KAPUNI. Quite a gloom was cast over Manaia on Saturday afternoon when the very sad news was received that Mr. Alois Herman, a well respected farmer on the Kokiri road, was drowned in the Kajmni river. Mr Herman (states the Star correspondent) was crossing the river, which was in flood, about 2 p.m., to help with a neighbor's cows crossing the ford. He was washed off his horse! Assistance was very soon available, but the body was not recovered from the river until early on Sunday morning by Constable Scannell and.party about a mile from the spot where the 'fatality occurred. The deepest sympathy is felt for his little children, Jive in num'ber, who are left now without father or mother. Mrs. Herman having died about two months ago under very sad circumstances.
