MANAIA SCHOOL.
DESTROYED BY FIRE. ' A fire, was discovered at 5.30 yesterday morning in the Manaia District High School. It had a strong hold, and no I water supply was available. The I Manaia brigade, who turned out, were able to save some material, but otherwise the buildings and contents were I totally destroyed. Luckily there was no wind, and the lire did not spread to the technical school building, which was separated from the school by only a short space. The cause of the Are is not known.
The sohool was built nearly forty years ago, when the Plains were first settled. Quite a crowd of people turned out to the scene of the fire. The building appeared to be quite all right on Monday.
It is remarkable thai the Opunake school was burnt about this time last year.—Star.
