A CONTRETEMPS.

I N.S.W. ORCHESTRA AND ACCOMMODATION. Before the big orchestral concert commenced in the Wellington Town Hall, says the Dominion, Mr. Gladstone Hill, manager for the New Zealand tour, CUD* forward and .announced that a regrettable contretemps had occurred. The orchestra had just arrived from Napier, and some of the members had not «TO> had anything to eat, and others W«v not in evening dress. This had to be excused, as great difficulty had beta found in getting accommodation, and some of them even then had no place to lay their heads that night. He did not wish to cast aspersions on anyone, but the sort of thing which had «ocurred was that three weeks ago 80 members of the orchestra had been booked at a certain hotel, but on Tuesday evening the owner of the hotel had rung up to say that he could not accommodate them. Cries of "Name," "Name," from all parts of the audience. Mr. Hill declined to give the name of the hotei, but said something to the effect that such treatment was no credit to the Empire City. He also asked members of the audience to do; what they could to relieve the situation. Somebody in the audience suggested that offers of assistance should be Received in the interval. At first Mr. Hill thought the gentleman was saying soj&bthing about refreshments at the interval, at which there was a general laugh, but the suggestion was at once accepted.

Later on in the evening Mr. Hill announced that people in the audience hod taken pity on the "waifs," and the Chief Magistrate of the city (Mr. J. P. Luke) had led the way by taking, in three. (Applause.) All were ultimately accommodated. On behalf of the orchestra, Mr. Hill thanked the people of Wellington for their generous action 'in the matter.
