DAMAGE BY FLOOD.

IN STRATFORD DISTRICT. Damage was done to the weir at the Stratford hydro-station on Saturday, some of the earth in front being scoured out. Steps are being taken to effect repairs. The old Waingongoro bridge, in the Stratford County, was damaged by the heavy flood in the river. The damage was caused by a piece of timber (brought down by the river), which struck one of the legs of the bridge. Repairs will be effected within two or three days. The new concrete bridge, which is being erected to replace the old one, suffered no damage, the work not being far enough advanced for the flood to have any effect. IN ELTHAM COUNTY.

As a result of the heavy rains on Saturday, serious damage was done to the Mangawheroiti bridge, in the Eltham County, which was in course of construction. At present no estimate can be given of the damage, but all the temporary supports and 100 cubic yards of concrete have been carried away. It is expected that a portion of ' the «bridge will be saved, but, from present reports, it looks as though practically the whole of the work will have to be done over again. Excellent progress had been made with the bridge, which, had it not been for the flood, would have been completed in about a week. It was being built by day labor, and the loss will fall on the Eltham County Council.
