AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. THE NEXT DAVIS CUP. . By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Received Jan. 23, 10.45 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 23. The lawn tennis championships were continued in fine weather. In the singles Cross (New South Wales) beat Best (New Zealand), o—l, 6—l, 6—2. Beamish (Britain) won his match. Kingscote was unable to compete in the singles owing to an injury to his back in yesterday's play. It is notified that entries for the 1920 challenge round of the Davis Cup, to be played in New Zealand in December next, must be in the hands of the secretary of the Australasian Lawn Tennis Association by the first- Monday in March.—Aus.-N.Z.
