AVALANCHE IMMIGRANT SHIP

To the Editor. Sir, —I notice In your local column that the ship Avalanche was tho first immigrant ship to arrive here. In a sense she was; but her passengers were not the first Immigrants to arrive hero. The first immigrants to arrive here were by the ship Waikato, which arrived at Wellington on the 10th of July, 1874. We got here by the Government boat Luna. Over 200 immigrants volunteered {or this port. Tho Waikato was sixteen weeks doing the voyage, so you see we were nearly twelve months before the Avalanche.—l am, etc., S. BROOKS, One of the Immigrants.
