SUPPLIES VERY SCARCfc. RELIEF NEXT WEEK. No sugar for Taranaki was brought from Auckland by the H&xuwa yen terday, and the position in New Plymouth now is that supplies are almost exhausted. Last night the New Plyt mouth agents received advice fAm tha Colonial Sugar Company that norma] supplies for Taranaki would be forwarded by the Rarawa, leaving Onehuum oil Monday. The New Plymouth dealers met yes* terday and in response to their re< quest the Mayor telegraphed to tha Prime Minister pointing out that for the last three trips there had been no sugar in the Rarawa cargo and that there were large numbers of visitor* still in the town and many mora dua for next week. Something should ba done to relieve the situation. Mr. Massey was asked to get Into communication with the Board of Twda with a view to having a supply o£ sugar sent forward by next Tuesday'! •boat. Sugar, when it is obtanable, is now; being served out in very small parcels, and the latest condition of the restrictions is that it can only be with orders for other goods.
