WAR ON POLICE.
IRISH BARRACKS ATTACKED. DYNAMITE BOMBS USED. By Telegraph—Press Ajsn.- Copyr'gUt. Received Jan. 22, 9.5 p.m. London, Jan. 19. A hundred and fifty armed men made a determined attempt to capture the police barracks near Thurls. A fusilade of bullets from the front and the rear marked the opening attack at nine o'clock on Sunday night. Two dynamite bombs exploded under the barracks, damaging the flooring. The garrison of thirteen police took up positions, replying briskly with rifle fire. Tiie shooting lasted four to five hours, steel window shutters being dented and pierced in many places. There were no casualties on either side, but several police suffered Blight cuts from flying fragments. Reinforcements of police and soldiers arriving found all the roads in the neighbourhood barricaded with felled trees. When they reached the barracks the attackers were gone. Three unexploded bombs were found in the precincts. The raiders captured and held prisoner two policemen during the attack,—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. LABOR PARTY'S INTEREST. DELEGATION GOES TO IRELAND. Received Jan. 22, 9.5 p.m. London, Jan. 19. A Parliamentary Labor Party delegation, including Mr. Arthur Henderson, Mr. William Adamson (chairman of the Parliamentary Labor Party), and Mr. J. R. REPORTED DUBLIN TRAGEDY. Received Jan. 23. 1.10 a.m. New York, Jan, 21. _ Dublin reports that Mr. Redmond, Assistant Commissioner of Police, was shot dead.—Reuter Service. SINN FEIN CRIMES. London. Jan. IS. An official return covering the last seven months of 1919 shows that the Sinn Feiners murdered 18 police and two civilians, fired at the police on 63 occasions and civilians on 14. They fired into dwellings on 41 occasions and also made 589 raids for arms and caused 70 incendiary, fires— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
