NEW FOOD SUPPLIES. SOLUTION OF LIVING PROBLEM. By Telegraph.—Press Aian—Copyright, Received Jan. 23, 12.10 a.m. London, Jan. 19. Mr. G. H. Roberts (the Food Controller), addressing the British-Russian Club, said supplies of food and raw material were important from the point of view of the world's economic welfare. The discovery of new sources of supply gives the best hope of reduction in the cost of living. Colonel John Ward, proposing the toast of Russia, said the opening of trade, to which he was opposed, was the beginning of a movement which would enable the Soviet power to establish itself on a permanent basis.—Aus.-N.Z. WHEAT FROM RUSSIA. A-ACLLION TONS AVAILABLE. Received Jan- 23, 1.15 a.m. London, Jan. 19. The Daily Herald states officially that the Soviets are prepared to place £40.000,000 in gold in foreign banks as a basis of trade. A million tons of wheat are ready for immediate export. Valuable trade concessions will also be grant-ed.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Asbix. RAISING THE BLOCKADE. PROTECTION AGAINST THE MENACE Received Jan. 23, 1210 a.m. London, Jan. 19. The Paris correspondent of the Daily Express states that the Supreme Council has decided to completely raise the blockade against Russia. The Supreme Council regards the reopening of trade, together with the subsequent resumption of general economic and presumably diplomatic relations, are the surest protection against the Bolshevik menace. Measures will be taken to prevent Bolshevik propaganda filtering eastward.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
