The finance committee of the Clt; Council discussed a proposal to vot( £SOOO to entertain the Prince of Wales; Some aldermen considered the pro posed sum miserly compared with wha Melbourne was doing. The opposition of one of the Labo: representatives to voting any of thi ratepayers' money for the purpose wa so strongly expressed tlhat it eventually led to his being conducted out. The council ultimately voted £IO,OO to cover the expense of the city's enter tainment to the Prince. 1 I
