(From Our Own Correspondent.) .lan, 21. The Cricket Club has been formed at last, and .most of the old members have joined up with several young men. It is the, intention this season to play only friendly matches and five challenges have already been received, while have been arranged with teams from Hawera, Patea, Waverlcy and Toko. Donations in money and material have heen received, so the Club is in a good way. The formation of the Club has licen mainly brought about by the efforts of Mr. C. E. Hemmingway. The brass band is putting in a lot of good useful practice. Several young men have started learning, and we will shortly have the band up to its old standard. The -Foresters hold their annual meeting to-night. There was a capital muster, and a new set of officers installed, mostly young men. This Court, founded in 1908. now has fil members with a. balance of £414 in the sick and funeral fund. It has only paid out one death claim, and that was for a member killed on Gallipoli It had eighteen of its members on active service. Only two claim» were made on the Court through the epidemic, which must -be nearly a record. Housewives are at a loss what to dc for sugar. Not an ounce is to be obtained, la the meantime fruit is coming forward and selling cheap. The kiddies have been having a great time _ gathering mushrooms. The" late rain is bringing them up everywhere, and during the last two days one could gather a basketful in a very short time. The C.E.M.S. Club held its annual meeting on Monday night, when there was a fair attendance. The balance sheet showed a membership of 324, and the profit on the year's working amounted to £<m 14s Id. The club is fortunate in having a really good steward in Mr. Mitchell, to whom a certain amount of credit is due for the satisfactory position. Mr. G. W. Bennett, was re-elected treasurer, and Mr. T, S. Stanners, president. These two gentlemen have been active members ever since the club started, and it is mainly owing to their activity that the club has been such a success.
