••■ A BABY FOUND DEAD. Dunedin, Jan. 20. The body of a fully-developed female child was found on the beach at St. Clair this afternoon by a small boy, who informed the police. The body was removed to the morgue. A strip of linen had been tied tightly round the infant's neck, and the head had the appearance of having been bruised.

FATAL FALL OF EARTH. Auckland, Jan. 21. William Grainger, a returned soldier, while employed in excavation work in Wyndham Street, was'crushed by a fall of earth several tons in weight. His death, was instantaneous. Another man, Bill, was also caught and his foot in* jured. He also suffered badly from shock.
