RETURNED FROM SAMOA.

LAST OF THE GARRISON. REPLACED BY CONSTABULARY. The last remaining members of the garrison, comprising five officers and 68 other ranks, arrived at Auckland Samoa by the Navua this week. Thej were under' the command of | General S. Skerman, who has been stationed at Samoa as principal medical officer for the last two years. • The administration of Samoa has now been brought under New Zealand civil authority, and a force of constabulary hag replaced the garrison. Samoa has been occupied by a garrison composed of New Zealanders since August 30, 19H. The personnel of the force has frequently been changed since that time. The original force which took possession of Samoa, called the , Samoau Advance Guard, consisted of 65 ' officers i :ul 1364 men, all of whom wero> mobilised within a few days after the outbreak of war with Germany. The men sailed from Wellington in the steamers Moeraki and Monowai early* on the morning of August 15, 1914, J| only 10 days after the news of the deji claration of war by Great Britain wta'l received in the Dominion. The force J arrived at Samoa on August I 30, according to New Zealand time, and > occupied Apia, without oppoeitlon, the same day.
