NEW PLYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth High Schools Board of Governors was held on Monday, there being present: Messrs L C. Sladden (chairman), H. Trimble, i\ W. Atkinson, A. E. Washer, S. 0. Smith, MP., L. A. Nolan, and E. P. Webster. Mr. Sladden, was re-elected chairman. After returning thanks for the appointment, Mr. Sladden reported regarding the projected erection of the east wing of the boys' classrooms and the grant made by the Education Department for the purpose. The architect to the board had furnished an estimate for the complete wing of four rooms and the oepartment had made a grant for "half the wing (one room on the ground floor and one above it). Before the erection could be proceeded with It would be necessary to remove the two existing wooden rooms (the last remains of the old school) which would be required for use while the new ones were being built. An intimation had been received that If the school roll Increased consideration would be given to the making of a grant for completing the whole wing.—The building committee of the board was authorised to deal with ; arrangements for proceeding with the work of erecting the classrooms. It was also reported that a further sum of £2lO had been received from the Citizens' Committee, through Mr. Webster, and that it would be used in connection with the building additions, together with a £ for £ subsidy.—On the motion of the chairman a vote of thanks was passed to the Citizens' Committee.
The new wing to the boys' boarding-house was reported to be nearing completion It would be ready for occupation when the school re-opened.
