CANTERBURY MARKETS. Christohurch, Jan. 16. Tho flew season's oats are commencing to appear on the market, and Interest has revived accordingly. One or two lines of Algerians have been sold at 5s 3d and 5s 6d at country stations. There is very keen demand from the North Island for Algerians for seed purposes, and the market for a few weeks Is likely to remain buoyant.. A line of the new season's new Danish oats has been sold at 4s 7d at country stations. Gartons have eased and may be quoted at 3d less than recent figures. This is a somewhat premature forecast, but it is tho figure at which the new season's crop will generally open, the good price for Algerians being entirely due to tho new immediate rtquirements of the North. The new season's barley will commence to come In during the next fortnight. There is no indication of the figure at which the market will open. Chaff has eased in price, £6 10s fielng the limit of offers at country stations. There has peon a sharp rise In the price of cocksfoot during the week, representing from 2d to 3d per lb., and lid to Is 2d Is now freely offered at country stations. The rather disappointing nature of the Peninsula crops, combined with the increased North Island demand, is responsible for tho activity.
