EXPLOITING FOREIGN MARKETS, j Masterton, Jan. 16. At the meeting of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce to-day Mr R. Brown presiding, a circular letter was read from the Auckland Chamber, dealing with the Webb-Pomerene Act of the United States. This Act virtually permits American firms to form separate trusts of each branch of industry for the purpose of exploiting foreign markets; in other words, to employ business methods outside their own country which would be illegal if employed within. The chairman said that Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., who had been shown the circular, had expressed great surprise that such methods were in operation in this country. Members present expressed the opinion that America was trying to "out" Germany.
