RIOTS IN THE CITY, STATE 03? SIEGE PROCLAIMED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrleht. Berlin, Jan. 13. Demonstrations were held for the purpose of molesting deputies on their way to the Reichstag. Traffic was heJd up in the vicinity of the Reichstag. A state of siege has been proclaimed in the greater part of Germany. Railway communications with Holland are interrupted. CROWD RUSH THE POLICE. BOMBS THROWN; SHOTS FIRED WOMEN TRAMPLED TO DEATH. Received Jan. 18, 5 5 p.m. Berlin, Jan. 14. Semi-official reports state that the attack on the Reichstag yesterday opened by a crowd rushing and disarming the police. Reinforcements held the crowd back some time, but the attacks were persisted in till the police were compelled to throw bombs. A panic followed, during which indiscriminate firing took place, many people being shot and Others, including women, trampled to death. Prior to the outbreak the demonstrators sent a deputation to the Assembly, where they were received by the Independent leaders, who promised to submit their demands to the Government. The sound of shooting caused a tumult in the Assembly, and the Independents rose from their seats shouting "murderers." The sitting was sus-pended.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

MACHINE GUNS USED. CROWD FLEE IN PANIC. SCENE IN THE REICHSTAG. Received Jan. 19, 2 a.m. Berlin, Jan. 15. Trouble started within the Reichstag itself, Independents interrupting the proceedings. A resolution to adjourn was negatived, whereupon the Independents went to a window and waved handkerchiefs. The demonstrators then attacked the building, shouting "Down with Noske's troops." In a wild rush many disarmed the soldiers. The military brought up machine guns and the crowd fled in panic. A dozen civilians were killed in the first burst of machine gun fire.
