THE MILLION VOTE. By the Housing Act passed last session ft million sterling was provided for loans to enable local bodies to finance their housing schemes. 'abinet, however, has not yet decided the method to be adopted for allocating the loan money The Government, it is understood, will make the allocation when all the local authorities have made their applications, preference being given to urgent cases. No loans for very large sums are likely to be granted. The Government, in the meantime, is erecting houses on its own account, where demand exists, and reasonable tenners are received. More than '2OO houses are either now being built or have been arranged for. As Minister for Labor, Mr. Massey has signed this week agreements for the erection of 3a dwellings under Die Act.
