THE DISPUTE TN CANADA. NEWSPAPERS REDUCED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 10, 9.5 p.m. Ottawa, Jan. 15. Newspapers in Winnipeg are reduced to bulletin size owing to the dispute between the Paper Controller and the Port Francis paper mill. Cabinet absolutely supports the action of the Controller, and the result is that, while the manufacture of paper continues, no shipments are being made any-where.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
[A message received from Ottawa a few days ago stated:—"The newspapers in the city of Winnipeg are threatened with early suspension, owing to a dispute between the Government and some of the paper mills. The latter sire defying the Government ordei'R to furnish Winnipeg with paper at, £lO a ton when it can he sold in the .United States at double this price. The Government has 'stopped all ears destined for the United States. Some mill-owners propose to test the right of the Government to wired TJ»s J»T>« wjntar.")
