LONDON WOOI SALES. 1 Messrs. Dalgety are in receipt of a cable "from their London office, under date of. the 12th. inst., rending as follows: Wool sales opened; competition fairly animated, selection fair. As compared with last sales, closing rate? fine crossbred wools are Brm but unchanged and medium crossbreds rather lower. Coarse crossbreds neglected and mostly withdrawn. Merinos generally are from jar to five per cent, advance.. addington market. Christclnirch, Jan. 14. There was a big yarding of nil classes of stock to-day. Prices for beef and mutton were easier than at the preceding sale, and lambs also showed a slight drop in values. The local freezing companies commenced operations at the beginning of the week, and freezing buyers were operating freely in beef, as well hs in mutton and lamb. Prices paid averaged from about SVjd to near 9d for lamb, ana full Government prices for mutton. Store shdep were yarded In big numbers, a consignment from the North Island being penned. Values dropped very decisively, and a large number were passed In. Fat lambs: 2850 were yarded, compared with 701) In the preceding week. The quality was moderate, and values wero a few shillings easier. Extra prlmo lambs to 32s 6(3, prime 27s 9d to 31s fid, medium 25s 3d to 27s 7d, lighter 208 Id to 24s 9d. Storo sheep:' The big yarding' was mostly of inferior quality, and price's were on a much lower plane than at recent sales of North island sheep. Forward met with Indifferent demand. Good rape lambs 17s lOd to 21s Id, ordinary 14s 6d to 17s 4d, cull and inferior lambs 8s 3d to 13s, good 4 and 6-tooth wethers 30s 6d, medium 4-tooth wethers 19s to 23s Od. good 2-tooth wetliers 21s Cd to ■24s 6d, Inferior 4-tooth wethers 16s lid to 17s. Cd, 2-tooth ewes 19s 9d to 24s Od, good t and 6-tooth owes 29s 6d, aged ewes 9s 6d to 153. Fat sheep—There was a big yarding of good Quality aheep, and the prices were back to prelioliday rates. A fair proportion of yarding went to freezing buyers. Prime, wethers 40s to 44s Od, medium 32s 6d to 39s 6d, lighter 24s to 31s, prteio ewes 27s 6d to 325, lighter 22s 3d to 275, prime hoggets 35s Id to 38s 2d, lighter 245. Tat cattle—49s were penned. They were of quality somewhat above the average. Extra prime steers to £3O 15s, priime £2l 10s to £2O 10s, medium £l6 to £2O, lighter £9 to £ls, prime heifers £l3-10s to £l7 17s Od, lighter £8 to £l2 15s, prime cows £l2 IDs to £2O 17s 6d, lighter and inferior £9 to £ll 10s.
Dairy cows —There was a good yarding of more than average quality. Heifers made to £ls, and young cows to £lB. Store cattle—There was a good sale for store cattle. Three-year steers to £lO 10s, 2-year £6 6s, yearlings £3 ss, bulls £2O 10s, dry cows £9 7s 6d
Voalers—The market was glutted, mostly with Immature stuff, which was sacrificed. Runners to £7 10s, good vealers 45s to 50s, medium to 30s, calves 6s to IDs.
Pigs—There was a large entry, and there was good demand. Extra heavy baconers to £9 lis Cd, heavy baconers to £8 10s, ordinary £5 15s to £7, the average price being ll%d to Is per lb; heavy porkers £4 5s to £5, ordinary to £4, the average price being Is Id; choppers £5 to £lO. Store pigs—There was a big yarding, and a keen sale. Good stores to £4 18s, medium £3 7s Id, weaner3 28s to 40s Id, sows In pig £6 7s 6d.
BURNSIDE. Dunedln, Jan. 14. In the fat cattle department to-day a mil yarding was ofTered, and the prices realised were a little lower than late rates. Lambs on tho other hand were dearer. Although pigs were in largo supply they realised extreme rates, in some instances over £lO a head being obtained. There was a large yarding of fat cattle, totalling 251 head. The quality on tho whole was fair, although a number of pons contained animals In prime condition. Prices realised at tho commencement of the salo were 15s a head below late rates Prime bullocks £23 to £3O, medium £lB IDs to £22, light and unfinished kinds from £ls 10s upwards, prime heifers raado from £l6 to £lB 10s, medium £l3 19s. to £ls, light and aged £lO and upwards. Store cattle: There was a small yarding, tile quality of which was of Indifferent description. The damand was good for well-bred sorts and those in forward condition. For these classes competition was good at prices fully 10s a head higher, while tho poorer classes were sold at prices on a par with late rates Sheep: There was a medium yarding of fair quality, numbering 1438 head. Competition was brisk for all classes at an advance of 2s per head over last week's rates, Extra prime heavy-weight wethers made up to 51s 3d, prime 41s 9d to 47s 6d, medium 36s to 40s, light and unfinished kinds, from 29s upwards. Extra prime hoavy-welght ewes made up to 46s 9d, prime 39s to 445. medium 33s to 38s, light and aged from 25s and upwards. Fat lambs: A small yarding, numbering 228 head. The yarding was of medium description. Competition was especially good, and all lambs, with the exception of those offered at the closing sale of the day were sold at 5s per head In advance of last week's rates. The sale weakened a little towards the end. Prices ranged from 208 to 32s head Pigs: There was a full yarding, the quality of which was very good. The demand was very keen, and the supply proved short of requirements. An exceedingly buoyant sale resulted at price 3 in advance of last week's high rates. Best baconers made from Is to Is Id per lb., and best porkers from Is Id to Is 2d per lb.
INGLEWOOD SALE. The first sale for the new year in Mr. Newton King's Inglewood yards, Dudley Road, was held on Wednesday, 14th. inst,, when, in spite of most uninspiring weather conditions, there vtas a good attendance and a very fair muster of stock, nearly all of which changed handt at prices at least equal to those quoted before the holidays just passed. Shorn lambs sold at from 9s lid to 14s, a line of ewes at lis. The demand for store and good conditioned empty cows has apparently not diminished, stores selling at from £5 14s to £9 3s, and forward up to £ll. . For bulls there was good competition. They sold at prices varying of course according to size and conditions, at from £7 up to £lB 10s: 2y.-year-oW steers found buyers at from £6 lis to £7, 18-montlis steers from £3 17s Cd to £4 os, heifers in calf realised as high as £8 7s, while empty heifers reached £0 15s On the whole It was a satisfactory sale, though far from a comfortable one for those attending it, and if it Is a precedent of the future sales for 1920 vendors will have few reasons for complaint.
SALE OF FRIESIANS. Palmerston N., .Tan. 14. Mr. W. I. Lovelock's dispersal sale of his Friesland Park pedigree Frleslan herd was hold at the Palmerston show grounds to-day. Representative buyers were present, top prices being cows 220 guineas, and one and two-year-old heifers 147 and l:U guineas respectively. There was keen competition for heifer calves up to 90 guineas.
