Advices received from Kotkai on January 10 state that our covering parties, while constructing picket posts, were attacked and driven back after a hand-to-hand struggle, in which the enemy suffered heavily. The post was not established on the 11th. Colonel Lucas' brigade moved out to re-camp near Gurlamakaeh and seized the-hills and a plateau overlooking the enemy, who were additionally surprised when Colonel Gwyn Thomas' brigade occupied a post overlooking Amnwitanzi.
