WAIROA RACES. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Walroa, Jan. 13. Tho Wairoa. Racing Club's new course was opened to-day in splendid weather. There was a record attendance. After presenting the cup to Mr. J. Hart, owner oC Athens 11., Sir James Carroll hoisted the club's flag and declared tha course open. He stated that the course had an historic Interest, In that It had been the meeting placo of the East Coast natives, and was known as "The Net." The amount passed through tho totalistaor was £13,436. Results:— RATJRA HACK HANDICAP. Six furlongs. —3 Lady Wolowa 1, 2 Patetonga 2, 1 Heathermoon 3. Also started: 6 Bepongacre, 6 Hydrax, 4 Winnie. A good race. Won by a length. Time. 1.15%. . TRIAL HACK HANDICAP. Sevon furlongs. —2 Pavilion 1, 3 Raffle 2, 1 Mirk 3. Also started: 4.Fire Spark, 5 Multllla. Won easily. Tune, 1.30.

TROTTING. NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. Chtlstcburdi, Last Night. At a meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association an application from the Thames Trotting Club for registration was canted. It was decided to ask the Forbury Park Club to make full inquiry in regard to the scratching of Gleaming at the recent spring meeting, and report to the Board's Judicial tommlttee. The Otahuhu Club reported It had reprimanded K. H. Smith and W, Kelsey for an arrangement suggested during the running of the Campbell Handicap. Smith admitted Kirtklrlroa caught him, and Kelsey said: "I will me a tenner with you." Smith replied: "No chance unless you slow up and make the time slow." Kelsey did not and Smith then said: "Do your best The tenner is off." The matter was referred to the licensing commltee with power to act.
