AUSTRALIAN WHEAT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrieht. Sydney, Jan. 14. In connection with the Wheat Commission's report, it is officially announced that the State Government, accepts full responsibility for any shortcomings of the Wheat Office, and any farmer proving himself a loser through such shortcomings will be compensated.
MARINE ENGINEERS' STRIKE. Melbourne, Jan. 14. The conference of marine engineers and shipowners decided to submit the men's claims to Mr. Hughes for decision. FEDERAL ELECTIONSMelbourne, Jan. 14. The final figures show the state of parties to be:—Nationalists 38, Labor 26, Farmers 11." HARVEST PROSPECTS. Sydney, Jan. 14. The wheat harvest is estimated at 4,494,000 bushels, the lowest since 1002, making a deficiency of two million bushels, which will have to be imported from other States.
