TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs. R. Masters, MP. (chairman), H: Trimbe, S. G. Smith, MP., H. .7. Eaves, A. Lees, H. H. Grayling, 1\ Hoskin, and P. J. H. White. TEACHERS' MOVEMENTS Leave of absence was granted to the following teachers: Miss N. Chapman, Riverlea (one weeks); Miss E. Jeffries, Okaiawa (one week). The following resignations were accepted:— Miss H. B. Nutting, Dudley road, Mr. C. L. Allan, Toko; Mrs. M. Whittalier, Kaimlro; Miss J. Hyndman, Central; Mrs. A. M. Hatier, Hawera, Technical High School; Miss A. McCarthy, Kent Road. TEACHESS AND PROBATIONERS. Tho Teachers' Selection Committee recommended tho adoption of the inspectors' list of appointments of pupil teachers and probationers as follow* S Pupil Teachers—Central: Misses Rosa M. Smith, Winifred M. Olsen, Eimira C. Mullon, and Muriel Williams. Btzroy: Miss Myrtle E. Walker. West End: Misses Mona J. Boyde, and Henrietta H. Lindop. Stratford: Marjorie I. Giddy. Inglewood: Alma R. C. Leslie. Normanby: Mr. Alfred W. Jennings. Probationers—West End: Miss Etlazbeth E. Pltcaithly, Hawera: Misses Lupy M. Carroll and Olive M. P. Grlnrod. Waltara: Miss B. E. Cartwrlght. Eltham: Miss Gladys M. Brooker. Inglevtood: Miss Freda J. Surrey. Manala: Miss E. A. J. Kirk. Kaponga: Miss Dorothy S. Hurst.. Normanby: Miss I. M. Brooker. Mldhltst: Miss Norah Coyne. In all nineteen probationers are required. Of tho fourteen recommended, eleven are quailfled for appointment; the other three are awaiting the results of the Intermediate examination and their appolnment will, therefore, be conditional on their passing. This will still leave Ave additional probationers to be selected when the results of the intermediate examination come to hand. The report was adopted.
MANUAL AND TECHNICAL COMMITTEE. The Manual and Technical Committee recommended as follows:—That one dozen sets or dairy science apparatus as recommended by the director be procurod from Messrs. G. W. Wilton and Co.; that the appointment of a woodwork instructor for the New Plymouth Technical College be loft In the hands of the chairman of this committee, Mr. Smith, and the director of manual and technical Instruction, with power to act; that the question of salaries paid tho Instructors and director of the Hawera Technical High School be referred to the chairman of the Board and the chairman of this Committee. The report was adopted. ARCHITECT'S REPORT. i The architect (Mr. C. H. Moore) reported that the shortage of cement had hindered progress with the Tawhitl school, a commencement had been made with the additions to tho Whaugaimomona. and Tokaora schools. ' The Oeo additions would be commenced within a fortnight, at latest, of the opening of the school again.
In a supplementary report the architect stated the plans and specifications for the Hawera Technical High School were ready for calling tenders In regard to the Cardiff school he said Its general condition did not justify n i ra In condemning It. Matters affecting repairs, at Slokola school and Huirangl and Ingle-' wood residences were also referred to, and some fencing requirements at Huiakama. Grants had been made for a residence at Hillsborough, additions to the Egmont Village School, and alteratioss at Rlverlea Mr Moore dealt with the question of general repairs and the necessity for a separate staff for repair work..
The matter of providing temporary accommodation at Oeo was referred to Mr. Eaves with power to act. ' Messrs Eaves and Lee were appointed to make temporary arrangements at Tawhiti pending completion of the new buildings. The question of a repair staff was referred to the Finance Committee
Tho architect was instructed to place two extra windows at the back of the senior class room at Mokoia, and It was decided that the committee be granted £3 towards the cost of removing tho shelter shed, and that application be made to the Dep-.rtment for a grant for the erection of a permanent partition and a grant for lining tho porch. The matter was referred to the senior inspector for a report. , Mr White brought up some matters In connection with the Miml School, which were satisfactorily explained by the secretary of the Board. A grant of £5 was made to the tahora Committee towards cost of draining and levelling the school grounds. Accounts tumouting to £10,154 17s were passed for payment.
