MILITARY PRISONERS.

LONG-TERM MEN ARRIVE BY KIGOMA. A dozen military prisoners who had been tried by court-martial in England on charges of committing various offences, and having been found guilty were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment, arrived by the Kigoma. Four of the number, whose offences were of purely a military character, were reprieved immediately on arrival of the vessel and were discharged. The balance of the men were sentenced for criminal offences. Of these, two were under sentence for ten years' penal servitude —one for manslaughter (shooting a New Zealand officer while he was attempting to take a revolver away from the prisoner), and the other for attempted murder. These men wore taken North under armed escort. The remaining six, where their conduct had been good, had their sentences considerably reduced on Lho arrival of the vessel, and have now to serve short terms only.
