LURE OF HOLIDAYS.

TOO MUCH FOR SOLDIERS. A rather unfortunate phase of tlic holidays is the number of returned soldiers who hav<; failed to return to work. These men evidently found the lure of a protracted holiday too much for them, and sacrificed their positions. This is the reason given by an official of the Auckland Repatriation Department in respect to figures submitted at a meeting of the District Repatriation Board. The report, compiled by the employment officers, shows that there are (M men on the register seeking employment, this number including' 4S applications received since the office reopened on January Oth. No doubt the men have found regular habits somewhat irksome after their experiences of the last few years, particularly since the great majority of them had long Spells before returning to work. That this fault is not confined to the men is proved by the fact that not so long ago, a big start' of young ladies in an Auckland establishment where meals are served left their occupation in a body to participate in the joy people were deriving from the holiday's. The management were left in a quandarv as to the best means of carrying on,"but after careful thought and much exertion tided over the busy period.
