OPERATIONS IN NEW ZEALAND. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 1, 8.20 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 7. In reference to Mr. J. A. Carpenter's appointment, Messrs. Burns, Plnlp say the present intention is only to open merchandise business, but it is understood that this will shortly be followed by steamer trade, and that in the near future the company will have its own vessels running to New Zealand with a view to a general extension of business operations throughout the Dominion.— AU3.-N.Z. Cable Assn. [A cable from Sydney, published yesterday, stated that Mr. Carpenter, former manager for Messrs Burns, Pliilp in Northern Queensland, has been appointed general manager of the company's New Zealand business, which it is intended to extend to the South Island.]
