OPPOSITION COMING. COUNTER-PROPOSALS SUGGESTED. By Telesraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 7, 2.35 p.mParis, Jan. 4. Advices from Constantinople state that the forecast of the decision of the Peace Conference, especially the rumor that tie custody of the Straits will be taken from Turkey, has created a deep impression. Officials declare the Government will send delegates to Paris to bring the Peace Treaty to Constantinople in order to submit it for the approval of the country. The Porte will then make counter-proposals and if the Allies do not accept these Turkey will refuse to sign the Treaty. The above message is not official.— Reuter Service. [A cable received from London a few flays ago stated that it was ; authoritatively predicted that the Allies were determined to remove the Ottoman Government to Asiatic Turkey, thu3 freeing Europe from the Sultan's poli- i tical power. The message added: "An Allied Commission will administer Constantinople, where the Sultan will be permitted to remain with full personal freedom in the capacity of supreme head of the Mahommedan faith. While his political and religious functions will be separated every care will be taken not i to lessen the Sultan's dignity and re- i ligious authority." A further message from London said: "No Anal decision has i yet been reached regarding the future of Turkey. General principles have been agreed on provisionally, pending a final decision at the forthcoming Paris Conference. The general idea at present favors a joint possession of the Straits and Constantinople- Everything possible •will be done in settling the new Turkißh capital to avoid offending Mahommedan susceptibilities."]
