TOTALISATOR RECORD.

AUCKLAND RACING CARNIVAL. SEVEN DAYS' TOTAL £009,175. The amount of money invested on the totalisator at the Auckland Racing Club's and Auckland Trotting Club's seven days' racing carnival, totalled no less than £609,175, as compared with £3(19,521 for the corresponding two meetings of the 1918-19 holiday period The increase shown by the total for this season's carnival is thus £239,654. This large total is a record for the Dominion. The sum invested on the Ellerslie course during the Auckland Racing Club's four days' meeting constituted a Dominion record, the total being £435,781 10s, as against £263,170 for the 1918-19 meeting, the increase being £172-,011 10s.

The total for the three days of the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting at Alexandra Park was £173,393 10s, as against £106,351 last season, or an increase of £67,042 10s. This year's total is a record for the club.

Following are the details of each day's investments during the two seasons:— Auckland Racing Club.

Ten per cent, of the total amount invested on totalisators is deducted and apportioned between the clubs and the State, the former receiving 7J per cent, and the latter 2£ per cent. Therefore, the Auckland Racing Club derives the sum of £32,683 from the totalisator for the meeting as compared with £19,737 last year. The Auckland Trotting Club receives £13,004 from its meeting, as against. £7926 last year. The Government's proportion from the two meoi'••«<! is £15,229, as compared with last year. In addition, the Stale benefits to a further extent in the form of a special war tax' of per cent, imposed on the dividends, which totalled £548.257 for the seven days. This tax yields £13,706, making a total gain to the State Treasury of £28,035. The amour,t received by the investors is thus £534,551.
