MYSTERIOUS CRIME.
man found shot. Sydney, Dec. 31. With three bullet wounds in his body, John Daniel Moran, aged thirtv-fonr, a fisherman, was found lying unconscious and bleeding on tfie footpath in Red Lion Street, Rozelle. He died in the Balmain Hospital. Constables Banting and Miles arrested a man at Alexandria in connection with the affair.
The circumstances of the tragedy suggest that Moran was murdered, but so far the motive remains a mystery. Sergeant Pemberton and,. Constable Rankin, of Balmain, discovered Moran who was conveyed bv the Civil Ambulance to the hospital, where he was operated upon. Two of the bullets had entered the left shoulder, and the third had lodged in the right collarbone. One of the bullets was removed, but the man's low condition did not permit of any further attempt to locate the remaining bullets. A curious feature of the tragedy lies in the fact that Moran refused to divulge the identity of his assailant Questions were put to him at first by the ambulance men, but he refused to say who shot him. Upon hi? arrival at the hospital he was closely questioned by the police. His replies indicated that he knew the person who fired at him, but he still maintained hie attitude of silence.
Moran's wife was sent for, and her appeals to him to reveal th-s name of his assailant met with a steadfast refusal. The onlv information he volunteered was to the effect that during the aftevnoon he played dominoes at a publichouse in the vicinity of his home. Later, with a few companions, he went to a house at Red Lion Street, and had a few drinks. He was just leaving the place when he was shot.
