THE CONFERENCE CONTINUED. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Jan. 6. The conference this morning passed a resolution: "That in general a country school area should be from five lo twenty acres, and be divided into playground, gardens, ground for children's horses, and ground to be known as residential area, for the use of the teachers."

A proposal affirming "that no portion of a school glebe be allowed to he leased by Education Board or School Committee" was struck out

Mr. R. ,T. Fobs (Pahiatua) moved: "That this institute affirms the principle that the Education Department should control all classes of pupils held during school hours."

The reference in the remit was to the military training of cadets in schools, when under the present regulations the pupils in schools came under the control of officials of the Defence Department and boys attending drill could be marked absent from school.

The general opinion voiced by delegates was that though ' representatives of the Defence Department liad power to call out pupils in secondary departments of schools, as a rule the power was not exercised without consideration.

It was agreed that due notice of the time of drills should be given, so that arrangements might be made beforehand with time-table. Boys attending drill could not legally be marked present at school. The remit was adopted.

The conference affirmed the last conference resolution relative to salaries: "That the salary schedule shall substitute for payment a schedule based on efficiency, on service, on educational status, and on professional and domestic responsibilities."
