SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
TEACHERS' SALARIES. The "New Zealand GAzette" of a recent issue set out the schedule of minimum salaries payable to principals, assistant masters and mistresses of secondary schools. Considerable discussion has followed the publication of some'Ol the details, which are now supplemented with the following official figures;BOYS' SCHOOLS.
If a teacher is provided with a residence, the salary required to be paid according to the above schedule may be reduced by a sum equal to the rental value of such residence.
The average salary of nil full-timo assistant masters, and of mistresses in any secondary school who are graduates or holders of teachers' certificates shall hot bo less than £320 and £250 respectively. The salary paid to any full-time assistant teacher shall not be less than £l5O. The number of full-time assistant masters and mistresses in any secondary school exclusive of the lower department, if any, shall not be less than one for every twenty-fivo pupili in average attendance.
The number of pupils under instruction by one teacher at any time shall not exceed thirty-five, unless under exceptional circumstances approved by the Minister.
