NOMADS DEFEAT WANGANUI. The Nomads touring team met a Wanganui representative team at Wanganui on New Year's Day and the following day. The Nomads were considerably strengthened by the inclusion of Bernau nnd Latham, of Wanganui. Wangangui wera short of several of then* best players, the absence of Often, HuSscy and Bernau especially weakening the eleven.
Winning the toss, Collins decided to bat on a perfect wicket. Nomads started very slowly, the score at the end of the first hour's play being 40 runs. With four wickets down for 106 runs play was stopped by rain for about half-an-hour. On resuming Wanganul bowlers could do but little with the wet ball, and runs came more freely. Bernau (65) and Collins (54, not out) batted splendidly In a total of 260 runs. Wanganul had only a few minutes left for play but kept their wickets intact with ten runs up.
Ou resuming on Prlday (morning, wickets fell fairly fast, and the home team was dismissed for 164 runs. Latham and Bernau were the most successful trundlers.
