TECHNICAL SCHOOLS.
TEACHERS' CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Wellington, Dee. 31. At the annual conference of the Net? Zealand Technical School Teachers' Association the following remits were carried:—
That section 113, paragraph 7, of the Education Act, 1914, be so amended as to give all managers of technical schools approved toy the Education Department control of the expenditure of money and I the power of appointing teachers; that an annual prize of £IOO he allotted for research work ■ special merit in connection with New Ze&* land industries or commerce by' either instructors or students of any technical college; that as the present system of paying salaries of technical school teachers out of capitation is unsatisfactory the payment of salaries he made by a direct grant in accordance with a prescribed scale. It was decided that the working majority of the executive be chosen in rotation from four large centres as follows: 1920 Wellington, 1921 Dunedin, 1922 Christchurch, 1923 Auckland. Officers were elected as follows: President, "Mr. Thompson (Ashburton); vice-president, Mr. Martin (Wellington); secretary and treasurer, Mr. Macfarlane (Invercargill); executive, Mrs. Milne (Dunedin), Miss Robertson (Wangamr), Allen, (Auckland), Mrs. -Williams (Wellington) .
